Associate Professor Kosheek Sewchurran

TITLE: UPDATE ON GSB
Assoc Prof Kosheek Sewchurran is the acting director of the GSB since June 2018.
As a scholar he is primarily interested in organizing practices and research that acknowledge the realities of a lived-experience. This scholarship finds expression in the conversation he convenes related to Business Model Innovation, Strategy-as-practice and Leadership-as-practice. This scholarship also finds expression in his role as the program director of the Executive MBA which he has curated since December 2013. His responsibilities on the Executive MBA include designing the program conversations, interventions and pedagogical outcomes to nurture the development of executives who are able to, in their actions and their being, lead authentically in the societal context humanity experiences.
Before he joined the GSB, he was Assoc Prof and HOD of the Department of Information Systems at University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Commerce. Prior to entering academia, he spent a little over a decade on manufacturing projects, working as a Systems Engineer optimizing plant automation and designing and implementing enterprise information systems.
A/Prof Kosheek Sewchurran holds a doctorate in Project Organising (PhD) from UCT; a Master of Science in Systems Thinking (MSc) from UKZN; a Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Science (CompSci) from UKZN; and a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering and Operations Research (BSc) from UNISA.
PROFESSOR G.S. (ANDY) ANDREWS. BCom, MBA, PhD.

TITLE : “The Challenges facing Business Schools in SA”.
Andy is a successful academic and entrepreneur who specialises in the fields of strategy, corporate finance and innovation. His current research focuses on the creation and destruction of corporate wealth. He has acted as the Academic Director on several high-level senior executive programmes at several international Business Schools which include MIT in Boston, IESE Business School in Barcelona and at several leading international Business Schools in China, Europe and India.
After completing his PhD while a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Business School, Boston USA, in 1979 was appointed a Professor in 1981 and served as Dean and Director of The Wits Business School from 1981 to 1989. In 1990 he started the Graduate Institute of Management and Technology which offered the Henley MBA degree in South Africa and served as Dean until 2000.
He served as President of the Harvard Business School Club of South Africa from 1984 until 2008. He has had extensive business experience as a consultant to major companies in South Africa and internationally in the fields of strategy development and implementation, innovation, leadership, coaching and development. Major international clients have included Johnson and Johnson, 3M, Allied Signal Visteon, 3i, Volkswagen, BMW, Serono, Nestle and Henkel. He has and does serve as a non-executive director on the Boards of Directors of several companies.
He has recently been appointed to the Board of Governors of Rhodes University, Grahamstown.
Until recently he served on the Board of the South African Rugby Legends which utilizes former Springboks in the development of young black rugby players and rugby in general.
However, his real claim to fame is that he is related to rugby Springboks Mark and Keith Andrews.

Associate Professor Camaren Peter (PhD)

TITLE : “Values, Ethics and Organizations : What Happens When What We Do
Differs From What We Say? “
Camaren Peter (PhD) is an Associate Professor with the Allan Gray Centre for Values-Based Leadership at the UCT Graduate School of Business. He holds a cum laude BSc (Hons) degree in theoretical physics, an MSc in astrophysics and a PhD in Business Administration. His research and practice leverages complexity theory to prepare leaders and decision-makers to tackle the grand challenges of the 21st Century. These range from ethical, political, technological and socio-cultural transitions and their implications, to powerful global change phenomena such as urbanization, resource scarcity, ecosystems degradation and climate change. Camaren is particularly concerned with their implications for the developmental trajectories of the Global South.
He is an author and has published widely on a variety of subjects. He has also worked extensively, with various bodies of the United Nations. He currently sits on a civil society reporting forum of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) that assesses the socio-political conditions in communities across South Africa, and maintains a keen interest in global and local politics.

Professor Ralph Hamann

TITLE : “THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION: IMPLICATIONS FOR SOUTH AFRICA AND THE GSB”
Ralph is Professor and Research Director at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, where he also directs the school’s PhD program. His research and teaching is on business sustainability, social innovation, and cross-sector collaboration. Rated an “internationally acclaimed” researcher by the National Research Foundation, he has published in diverse outlets including competitive management journals such as Journal of Business Venturing and Journal of Management Studies.
Among his other roles, he is an executive editor of Environment: Science and Policy for Sustainable Development; South Africa lead at the Embedding Project (which received the inaugural International Impactful Collaboration Award from the Academy of Management), and co-founder of the Southern Africa Food Lab (for which he received UCT’s Distinguished Social Responsiveness Award). He has held diverse visiting positions, most recently as Pearson Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship and Engineering at Brown University.
CHRIS HOSKEN

Title: Startup School - A case for leveraging technology to solve education challenges and create a culture of entrepreneurship in South Africa.
Chris is currently pursuing solutions to education challenges in South Africa. He believes that inclusive models of education, entrepreneurship and the ecosystems that house these are the key to unlocking Africa's potential. Chris has been fortunate enough to have held various roles at big and small companies, from start-ups to corporates and everything in between. He was a partner and the Chief of Development at GetSmarter-Africa's largest online education company. He co-founded the Startup School with Stewart Cohen, which aims to create an inclusive ecosystem of entrepreneurial learning, mentoring, funding, and impact.
Chris completed his BCom and Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Entrepreneurship at UCT and is currently completing his Masters in Inclusive Innovation at UCT’s GSB, he plans to pursue his Doctorate in 2019 with EMLyon Business School(France) focusing on the role of disruptive technologies in education under the supervision of Professor Walter Baets.
